Le 18 mai 2025, elle a baptisé du nom de l’ancien président du Ghana une avenue nouvellement aménagée dans l’arrondissement 05. La cérémonie, placée sous la présidence du Premier ministre Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, s’est déroulée en présence d’une délégation de la famille Rawlings et de nombreuses personnalités.
Longue de plus de deux kilomètres en deux fois deux voies séparées par un terre-plein central, l’avenue baptisée du nom de feu Président John Jerry Rawlings débute au nord par l’avenue Jean-Paul II et finit au sud par le boulevard Capitaine Isidore Noël Thomas Sankara.
C’est le ministre de la Communication, de la Culture, des Arts et du Tourisme, porte-parole du Gouvernement, Pingdwendé Gilbert Ouédraogo, qui a porté à l’assistance le mot du Premier ministre à l’occasion de cette cérémonie d’hommage. Présente à la cérémonie, Yaa Asantewaa Rawlings, fille de l’illustre disparu, a rappelé le grand estime et l’attachement que son défunt père a témoigné au Président Thomas Sankara jusqu’à sa disparition le 12 novembre 2020. Elle a affirmé que cet hommage du peuple burkinabè est une fierté pour toute sa famille et la Fondation Jerry John Rawlings.
En rappel, l’engagement dont a fait montre feu Président John Jerry Rawlings pour la réalisation du Mémorial Thomas Sankara est de notoriété publique. Il était au rang des officiels lors de la cérémonie de lancement du projet, le 02 octobre 2016 à la place de la Révolution.
